Reflecting on Ruth’s LinkedIn Live Panel: Predictions for 2024

On 11th January, Ruth participated in a LinkedIn Live panel, sharing insights on the year ahead in terms of recruitment, careers, and the economy. Here are a few key takeaways.

Economic Outlook for 2024

According to Ruth and the panel, the economic landscape in 2024 is anticipated to show significant improvement compared to 2023. They noted that this upturn had already commenced in October 2023. Despite potential uncertainties due to global elections, there was a prevailing sentiment that businesses were moving forward with confidence. The prediction emphasised that 2024 would be a solid year, though not necessarily extraordinary. Interestingly, the panel expressed greater optimism for 2025, foreseeing even better prospects on the horizon.

The global skills challenge was highlighted as a persistent issue, reflecting the dynamic nature of the job market.

Industry Reports:

  • Firefish Software® released their Future of Recruitment Report 2024, indicating that 60% of recruitment leaders were optimistic about the coming year, with only 9% expressing pessimism.
  • Sonovate reported a surge in recruitment start-ups at the end of 2023, suggesting growing confidence in the hiring market and the overall economy.

Job Seekers Guidance

Cover Letters: From their experience, cover letters are still relevant and do get read. They advised jobs seekers to take the time to carefully craft a relevant cover letter to support a job application.

Smart Networking: Quality over quantity. Build your community strategically around sectors, businesses, and leaders of interest.

Tech and AI: Use tech, including AI, but don’t lose the personal touch. Choose tech that adds value.

Stay Informed: Attend expos, keep learning about your field, and stay ahead in your game.


Employer Insights on Talent Engagement

Look after your people: The panel stressed the importance of supporting employees’ professional development, consider training and coaching over and above compensation packages.

Application Response: It is still highly encouraged that employers should continue to promptly respond to job applications. This impacts an employer’s reputation and brand.

EVP (Employee Value Proposition): Live your EVP, ensuring it is genuine and not just lip service.
